Application ProceduresElectrode performance can be improved by minimizing electrode output impedance and maximizing amplifier input impedance. The differential amplifier (used with electrodes in a bipolar configuration) should also have a high common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR). Unprepared skin results in input impedance mismatch and thus lowers the CMRR. Electrode Treatment
ProcedureBefore an electrode is applied, the skin should be shaved and rubbed vigorously with alcohol. The alcohol should be allowed to dry before the electrode is applied. Using the electrode interface adhesive (shown in the picture below), apply the electrode at the appropriate location with the arrow on the Delsys casing parallel to the muscle fibre. The reference electrode should be attached to the patella, using the DermaSport electrode as shown below. In order to reduce motion artifact due to relative movement between the electrode, its cables and the skin, the electrodes and part of the cable are secured to the leg using 3M tape. Connect the electrode cables to the belt-mounted unit in the appropriately labeled channels (record on paper which channel carries which muscle EMG signal). Connect the belt-mounted unit to the network cable which should already be attached to the main amplifier unit. Any cable carrying an EMG signal should be uncoiled and drape freely. Turn the power on to the main amplifier (power switch should depressed on the ‘I’ to indicate the on position). The tone switch can be turned on if you wish to hear (the lights of the specific channel always light up) when saturation or line interference occurs. Allow the electrodes a few minutes to settle before taking recordings. Ordering InformationProduct
